We are so lucky to have the amazing Shollenberger Park in Petaluma and specifically I love the Ellis Creek area with all the aquatic birds. Ducks and Swans and Geese etc. are such amazing caretakers. In the spring you’ll often see them swimming or walking one parent in the front one in the back and the young ones in between.

The first time I saw the swans at Ellis Creek I was so excited and then when the cygnets were born (love their name) I felt so honored to see them! Walking around Ellis Creek area is an auditory adventure, birds calling, singing, warbling, tweeting etc. The Ellis Creek trails are a great place to take visitors to Petaluma, to introduce kids to birds and to bring a telephoto lens to capture amazing wildlife photos. These are my photos just taken with my phone.
The Petaluma Wetlands Alliance has an amazing resource with all the birds found in the Petaluma Wetlands. https://petalumawetlands.org/wetlands-life/birds/
I park here 3900 Cypress Dr, Petaluma, CA 94954 to get started. Make sure dog is on leash and hope you see the swans!
